This blog originally was intended to be a picture of the day blog; however, it has seemed to morph into a journal of sorts, it is mostly about Hadley and her daily happenings, but since I am writing it- you get a bit of me every once in a while too. I hope you enjoy reading about our lives!

Day 111

Happy, or should I say Hoppy, Easter! I was very excited about Hadley’s first Easter, just as I am going to be excited about all of her firsts. I was a little bummed that she was too young to experience the fun of Easter egg dying/hunting, but I did explain the reason we celebrate Easter to her, not that she understood, but I thought I would try! We got dressed in our Easter dresses and headed to church. Hadley looked ADORABLE!!

Hadley and me

When we arrived at church, Hadley was asleep, as often is case; however, shortly before service began she woke up. I thought no big deal- she typically does wonderfully during church. She goes with me every week and has never in the past 4 months fussed or anything. So we get through the praise and worship singing, which always makes her smile, and even half into the message and it seems to be going well (do you see where this headed?!?). Then suddenly, Hadley decided she wasn’t happy- not only was she not happy she was ANGRY. She could not be consoled, so I had to step outside.  Okay, I thought to myself, we will just walk around and watch the TV outside the auditorium while she calms down. No that didn’t work either; at this point it becomes obvious she is tired, but is insisting on fighting sleep (she has a really bad habit of doing this at really inopportune times, think like 2 am). At this point I decided to walk outside, usually being outside makes the crying stop right away. It didn’t happen right away, but eventually she did fall asleep (big sigh of relief from me).  It was just one of those moments. I wanted so badly for us to enjoy the Easter service together and it be a pleasant experience and here is Hadley screaming her head off- it just goes to show , you never know what you’re going to get with an infant. In the midst of my own personal struggle with an upset  baby I saw a number of parents (all dads by the way) trying to calm their upset toddler, baby, or child. I saw a boy about 6 throw a full blown tantrum in the lobby. He threw himself down on the ground and screamed. When his father picked him up and started carrying him to the car, the boy trashed and jerked in such a way I was certain his father would drop him.

New bib...love it (got it at Target)

It made me realize there is this whole world of parenting that you don’t really have empathy for until you are a parent yourself. I used to think the token crying baby in public was obnoxious and its parents needed to do ANYTHING to make it stop….now I see it completely differently ( I am still struggling with the embarrassment I feel when Hadley isn’t perfect in public. I know how people hate crying babies and the time- which luckily are few and far in between- when I have a hard time calming her down I panic in fear that others are judging me…because in reality some of them are).
After church, which I was able to catch the end of, we headed home to open Hadley’s Easter basket, she made out pretty good, and eat dinner. It was a low key afternoon, with a nice meal, two of the most important people in my life (my mom and my daughter) and fun. Hadley FINALLY rolled over from her stomach to her back not once but twice!!!  All in all it was a perfect Easter Sunday. I love this time of year as it really makes me remember how selfless Jesus was- he died for our sins- it truly is amazing---that’s Grace!

Day 110

We did a lot today. It was a fast and furious day of shopping, eating, and preparing for Easter. We headed to Mesquite first for a seafood lunch a la Red Lobster, don’t judge. We then stopped by Once Upon a Child to scope out shorts, excersaucers, and bows- we struck out on all accounts. We had planned on stopping by to see the Easter Bunny, but Hadley spit up all over her cute Easter outfit #2 and was pretty fussy- I could just see her screaming bloody murder on the Bunny’s lap, so I decided to wait until next year, when she is a little bit older and perhaps able to sit on her own!

Then we had to brave the crowd at Kroger to get supplies for our modest Easter lunch. I had planned on making some sort of grand feast, and I wanted it to be something non-traditional, but the week had been long and I hadn’t planned anything…so I settled on Chicken Divan and creamy asparagus. I had not had either before and they seemed to agree with my mom’s diabetic diet, so that’s what we whipped up- it was pretty good.

We were all exhausted Saturday evening and crashed pretty early (but not before getting Hadley’s first Easter basket ready), after all church is a half an hour earlier in the morning, so we needed the extra rest.

Day 109

Today was a half day at work, which is always nice. I made good use of my free Friday afternoon and made arrangements to have Hadley’s 3 month pictures taken (there is a link on my Facebook if you would like to see those, due to the nature of sharing these photos,  I can’t put a link here…weird).

Anyway, it was a pretty quick session, but I am happy with the pictures. Lesson learned, tutus irritate Hadley’s skin, in the future most likely will pair said tutu with a onsie. It was pretty amusing; Hadley just didn’t want to smile. She is such a serious baby; she was looking at the photographer like she was a crazy person. Hadley loves to smile, but is so strong willed and stubborn, thus when you want her to smile- i.e. when a camera is shoved in her face, she won’t do it. However, the pictures are still adorable! It was a good day, and I was glad that my mom was here to share it with us (especially since she made Hadley’s tutu)!

Just a reminder of how cute this tutu is!

Day 108

Today was Hadley’s last day at school this week, since she goes to a church school they observe Good Friday- Wills Point ISD, does not. Naturally, Hadley had to wear an Easter themed outfit to school today, this particular outfit and bow was a gift from Gigi- again it was a skirt, so she was flashing everyone all day, but she did look adorable.

Today was also Aggie Muster, so for the first time in a long time I went. One of my favorite fellow Aggie, Camille, and I went to Gilley’s for the Dallas A&M Club’s Muster. It was for the most part a nice evening, minus our not so nice/friendly table mates, but it reminded me of one of the many reasons I am proud to be an Aggie!

Day 107

I don’t know exactly why, but today (and pretty much every day since) Hadley could not spitting up! I literally had to change her clothes 3 times from the time we got home until bedtime. She has always been a “spitter,” but this is more than your typical everyday spitting up- it copious amounts and its often.

In lighter news, I put her in this adorable little blue dress/onsie. She is so funny anytime she has a skirt or a shirt that she can pull up she will, she just wants to show off her belly I guess!

Also today, I put her in the first of many clothes she will have to wear at some point, that were mine. My Uncle Bill gave my parents this little Yale shirt (his alma matter) when I was first born. It was sized 6-9 months , so I thought it would be huge on Hadley- it wasn’t. I guess sizing has changed a bit in baby clothes since 1983….it was a pretty tight squeeze, but cute nonetheless!

Day 106

We got home later than usual today, because I had an after school meeting. I kind of liked it, because she had just finished  a bottle when I got her, so she was ready to nap on the ride home and for the first bit when we got home, it just seemed a lot less stressful. Typically as soon as we walk in the door she is ready for a bottle and I have just enough time to change and make her a bottle before the pouting starts. It was a nice change.
It’s funny how much time she can spend staring at the ceiling fan. I mean seriously she will stare at it for 30 -45 minutes, I try to get her to look at me, but I am just not as interesting. She made real progress in tummy time today. She pushed herself up to a 90 degree angle and held herself there for a few minutes several times- we are making progress!!
I moved bath time up an hour to 6, because I was afraid we would possibly not have electricity, because some “bad” storms were headed our way. Since I moved bath time up, I tried to move bed time up. I thought it actually worked, she was out until 8:30. I thought she might wake up for a bottle and go back to sleep, but no. She wanted to stay up and talk for an hour. She literally kept cooing and making sound for an hour, it was pretty entertaining. She was talking to me, to the fan, to the animals over her swing…she was just in the mood to gab away. She’s going to be a talker-again I don’t know where she get s that from :)

Day 105

Mondays always seem to throw us off. Hadley slept in until 8 on both Saturday and Sunday, and the whole having to be in the car by 6:45am, just  didn’t jive with that too well.  She took a bottle at about 5 and slept until we had to leave which was good in theory, but she typically has a bottle before we leave so she doesn’t show up for daycare starving. It seemed to be okay though; however, she took 4 whole bottles at day care which is twice what she normally does, she just has an insatiable hunger as of late…I’ll blame it on a growth spurt. She is growing A LOT, two weeks ago she could still wear newborn clothes, now she is in 3-6 months…it is crazy!!

DAy 103-104

My mom and James came into town this weekend to check out the festivals going on. That is something I love about being in a smaller town: the festivals with their food, crafts (aka bows and tutus), and fun.  It was a good weekend. Hadley loves being outside and everyone had to tell us how beautiful/sweet/cute/small she was. After the Blue Bird Festival in Wills Point, I thought it would be a good idea to take Hadley to the pool and dip her feet in to see how she did. She really seemed to like it. It was a bit too cold to actually let her test out being in the pool, but she stuck her feet down on the steps and seemed to enjoy it. I know she loves baths and think she just likes being in the water. We got her a bathing suit, we finally found one small enough at Target, on Sunday, and I am really looking forward to the summer – having a pool at our apartment will be awesome! Hadley got a new bow and she had to show it off at church on Sunday- I think it is just about the cutest thing I have ever seen, what do you think??
